Since assuming the role of Plan Ambassadors, renowned entertainment artists Ekin Cheng and Louisa So have been tremendously supportive of Plan International Hong Kong. Not content to simply be child sponsors, they have also visited their sponsored children in Cambodia in order to gain first-hand experience of their living and learning environments.

Following the success of the inaugural Plan International “Walk for Children” in 2012 organised by Plan International Hong Kong, the organisation has decided to join hands with Ocean Park once more, presenting the next “Walk for Children” on the 17th of March 2013. Ekin and Louisa have again had no hesitation in playing their part in Plan’s campaign for the event.  With the help of students from Tsuen Wan Trade Association Chu Cheong Kindergarten they have participated in a promotional photoshoot and a video, which will be used to encourage as much public support as possible.

The funds raised through the “Walk for Children” in 2013 will go to support a Plan education programme in JinPing County, Yunnan Province, Southwest China. This project will increase accessibility to and the quality of early childhood education services for pre-school children, and will include school block construction, equipment upgrades and teacher training.

Plan Ambassador Ekin Cheng said, “By participating in Plan’s ‘Walk for Children’, you will set the feet of many young, ethnic minority children from JinPing County, Yunnan Province in China on the path to a better future. Currently, only 15% of children aged 3-6 years have access to pre-school education in JinPing County. Quality pre-school education is crucial to providing a better future as it prepares children to integrate smoothly into primary school, and to be able to make the most of the next level of education. How can you not support such a meaningful activity?”

The route of the Walk begins at the new entry plaza of Ocean Park – Ocean Square, passing various new attractions launched recently in the Park such as the Grand Aquarium, Aqua City Lagoon, Sichuan Treasures, Old Hong Kong, Polar Adventure, Thrill Mountain and The Rainforest, with Whiskers Theatre being the end destination. There will be awards for teams with most members: teams composed of 30 or more members will be awarded with the Highest Participation Team Awards; teams composed of the most members will be awarded with the Gold Award with a Commemorative Certificate.

Participants are also welcome to design their outfits on “ocean” or “kids” related themes to compete for the Best Dressed Awards for the top three outstanding teams. The Best Dressed Award captured the imagination of participants last year with costumes in different kinds of fun outfits such as self-designed handmade tees for the whole family, an octopus look, a submarine crew, etc.  It is hoped that there will be more teams competing for the best dressed titles this year, adding colour and excitement to the event.

The event is now open for enrolment and the deadline is 20th February 2013. Participants may stay in Ocean Park for the rest of the day, enabling them to enjoy the park’s attractions with family and friends. Please visit the website of “Walk for Children” https://ssl.comm01.com/plan/ for more details or call 3583 3100 for enrolment and enquiries.

Plan Ambassador Louisa So, said, “Without this effort, many children from JinPing County, Yunnan Province in China will drop out of primary school within the first two years and be doomed to repeat the cycle of poverty that challenges their parents. One small step in Hong Kong equals a giant leap in JinPing County. Take the chance to put your best foot forward and support the ‘Walk for Children’ 2013. We look forward to seeing you at the ‘Walk for Children’ organised by Plan Hong Kong. We need you to help us light up the lives of these needy children!”
